 Click here to discuss about Meas Soksophea.About two years ago when I first wrote Meas Soksophea’s profile, her popularity was already rising, and more and more people began to recognize the quality of her voice and talent. I personally was a big fan of hers myself. She was one of the stars for whom I chose to write a profile when www.Angkorthom.US was just created. Here is one of the paragraphs from her old profile, “…that is a Khmer young girl named Meas Soksophea. I saw her the first time on one of Reymeas Karaoke DVDs. Her voice caught my attention right away. I thought she was a little, cute and young girl with a very fine voice and she could sing Khmer/English songs better than most Cambodian singers at the time. A few months later, every Khmer Karaoke DVD I bought, she is on them. She is everywhere including many CTN TV programs, etc…” Click here to read her old profile.

Article : What is Pchum Ben?

 Prachum Benda, Bonn Pchum Ben, Pchum Ben or Ancestors’ Day in Khmer society is the most important spiritual and religious event held by Cambodians around the 15th day of October every year. Exact date may vary depending on the lunar cycle. Pchum Ben can be roughly translated to “gathering and offering". Pchum means “gather” or “meeting” and Ben means “offering”. Pre- Pchum Ben events simply called Ben are sequentially held each day for 14 days before the main event - Pchum Ben, as Ben 1, Ben 2, Ben 3, etc. People take turn to sponsor or host each Ben until when everybody comes to celebrate Pchum Ben on the 15th day. Your action of sponsoring or hosting a Ben is called Kann Ben. Kann means “hosting” or “holding”. So Kann Ben means you host or sponsoring offering or serving activities. In Khmer ancient time, Pchum Ben festival lasted three months, ending on the fifteenth day of October each year.

 Click here to discuss about Vang Sreyno. When I first wrote Vang Sreyno’s profile on July 17, 2007, I did not know that her profile would be the most read star profile on Angkorthom.US. Now we all can see her profile is even more popular than Preap Sovath’s, Chorn Sovannareach’s profile or any other famous Cambodian stars. Check to see our Top 10 Profiles. This may change later but so far her profile gets the most hits. So you may be tempted to ask why? I personally think she is famous with a lot of news in the media so people want to read more about her, but if you think there are other reasons, please comment at the bottom of the article or on her forum.

Khmer Star Profile : Ou Reaksmey Profile ***Just Updated***

 Click here to discuss about Ou Reaksmey. “Rodern” is a Khmer word referred to a unique accent of certain area in Seam Reap province or a Northern part of Cambodia such Monteay Meanchay. Not all Rodern accents are the same and Khmer entertainment communities recognize and promote accents from the Northern part of the country. Some Rodern singers were not originated from Seam Reap or a Northern area, but they trained their voice to sing Rodern songs; for instance Ouen Srey Mom is one of them. She was not from Seap Reap but she is able to sing “Rodern’ songs and people like her. They are sometimes referred to as a Kontrum singer.
Most of Khmer music productions include a couple of Kontrim or Rodern songs in each of their album to promote sales. For some reason, there were not very many Khmer female singers who could sing “Rodern” songs. After So Sopheak left Cambodia to live in USA, we saw Ouen Sreymom, Path Sotheavy, Meth Vanna, Hang Pisey emerged and for the last several years Khmer communities saw another new “Rodern” singer emerged – Ou Reaksmey. However, though Ou Reaskmey is originally from Seap Ream and she speaks and sings with Rodern accent, she does not sing only “Rondern” songs. She sings variety of music such as slow, sentential, comedy like, pop and oldie songs. For the past few years, Ou Reaksmey’s popularity has been creeping up.

There are many singers, actors and actresses who were very unfortunate and had gone through many ordeals, hardships and obstacles before they got to what they are today, but Youk Doung Dara’s life was bombarded with even more dramas and sorrows than those Angkorthom.US had interviewed for the past several years. It was very heartbreaking just to listen to what he had to go through in his life as a child. His father was killed by the Khmer Rouge before he even was born. He never had a chance to know what his father looked like like most of us. He had no memory of his mother either as she passed away when he was only 2 years old. Living with his poor brothers, Youk Doung Dara did not even have enough food to eat each day.

Peou Panhapich Profile Part II ***New***

It has been for more than 3 years now since Peou Panhapich was shot early in the morning on April 23, 2007 by an unknown gunman when she was getting off from her car on her way to attend her English class at E.L.T in Phnom Penh. Nobody thought she would live at the time because she was so badly wounded that she had to be transported to a hospital in Vietnam for special treatments. From that day on, Peou Panhapich is a completely different person. Her world went upside down. The tragedy turned a beautiful, energetic, hard-working young girl who is full of hope and potentials into a paraplegic who could not even move or feel most of her body. Though all her physical wounds from the attack have healed today, she is completely paralyzed from her chest down. She can only get around by a wheel chair and can’t live on her own. Pains from the damaged nerves and bones are still badly affecting her physically and mentally.
