Not all Rodern accents are the same and Khmer entertainment communities recognize and promote accents from the Northern part of the country. Some Rodern singers were not originated from Seam Reap or a Northern area, but they trained their voice to sing Rodern songs; for instance Ouen Srey Mom is one of them. She was not from Seap Reap but she is able to sing “Rodern’ songs and people like her. They are sometimes referred to as a Kontrum singer. Most of Khmer music productions include a couple of Kontrim or Rodern songs in each of their album to promote sales. For some reason, there were not very many Khmer female singers who could sing “Rodern” songs. After So Sopheak left Cambodia to live in USA, we saw Ouen Sreymom, Path Sotheavy, Meth Vanna, Hang Pisey emerged and for the last several years Khmer communities saw another new “Rodern” singer emerged – Ou Reaksmey. However, though Ou Reaskmey is originally from Seap Ream and she speaks and sings with Rodern accent, she does not sing only “Rondern” songs.
